SARAH, web3earner: We are back with another episode of our Meet a Builder interview series, where I have the pleasure of talking to the teams behind your favourite web3 earning projects. My name is Sarah, and I am thrilled to have fellow Aussie, Emma, from the PUML team here with me today.
In today’s interview, we get to explore PUML, a fitness app that is revolutionizing the way people approach their health and wellness.
PUML uses innovative technology and global competitions to motivate users to build healthy habits while earning rewards and prizes. Emma will be sharing her insights into the development of the app, their vision for the future of fitness, and the benefits of using PUML to achieve your health and fitness goals whilst being rewarded.
How are you today Emma?
EMMA, PUML: I’m very well, thank you, Sarah. How are you?
SARAH: Beautiful, I’m very, very good, thank you.
SARAH: Can we start off by explaining to us, what PUML is?
EMMA: Yeah, yeah sure. So, you kind of hit the nail on the head we’re looking to gamify and incentivize people’s healthy habits. And we started off essentially as a corporate well-being platform. So, we’ve managed to onboard 50 plus corporate clients that use our web3 native application. We’ve got about 250 thousand registered web 2 users that we would say, over the last sort of two years of that, we’ve been open.
We’ve basically got two aspects to the app, which is our individual gameplay. And then we’ve also at competition-based challenges so you can compete with people globally or even sort of within the same organization or the corporate side of things or within your friendship groups, essentially that we run there.
The main part of the app is essentially to do with movement or physical activity. But we’ve also got things like meditation, which is currently available for everyone. And also the challenges that are currently gated for sleep, gratitude, hydration and all sorts of stuff that sort of play into a healthy lifestyle. So over the next six months, we’ll be looking to roll those out as well to the general public.
And we’re kind of trying to be sort of a health and lifestyle app week and basically get rewarded for anything that’s healthy. We sort of shy away from the move to earn, but something along the lines of health to earn’ this where we are sort of looking towards.
So we saw sort of a particularly strong Market gap for us to enter during the pandemic in providing sort of a digitalized solution for these corporate organizations. And over the last six months, we’ve kind of brought that out to the general public as well. So, you know, we’re seeing a lot of global issues, like, poor, mental health, and all sorts of the things that come with a sedentary life, or you know, localized lifestyle. So, we wanted to gamify and incentivize people to actually get out there, get moving, get healthy, because it’s better for all of us if we’re all healthy.
SARAH, web3earner: Hmm. Yeah, absolutely. As a fitness and health fanatic, I really appreciate the incentivised pushed that you guys have with your app. I think it’s really important stuff that you’re working on. How can people learn with PUML?
EMMA: Yes, just as I said, I mentioned there’s basically two parts of the gameplay. So on the individual side, we’ve got our daily claim, which is to do with the steps that you do on a day-to-day basis. So that’s completely free to download and use for anyone to get started.
We have a level of sort of like, a maximum level for the free users, which is claiming 2000 steps per day, with a slight sort of incentive for people to do more as well. So the amount that you get may vary slightly. Essentially from there you can join into our challenges, which is sort of the bread and butter and where we started off in the app. So you might get sponsored by a brand based challenge.
We’ve also worked with professional athletes here in Australia. So we did a big women in sport competition last year which was actually sponsored by the Queensland government, which was really exciting. To have the government interested involved in web3 technology and support us was really awesome.
There’s this pretty cool stuff that we’ve got going on. But the challenges could be anything from a week long sprint step challenge, where you can, you know, do as many steps as you like. And then the top sort of leaderboard will get rewarded the most. Everyone always gets a participation prize entry.
And we’ve also got things where you can toss your PUML coins in and try and triple them or double them. For example if you hit fifteen thousand steps every day for this week, you’ll double your tokens, or if not, you’ll lose them. So we’re building in extra education elements as we go along. But those challenges, as I said, at the moment for the public, we’ve got the step and meditation but we’ve got plenty more that are available for our corporate clients and will roll them out as they come.
SARAH: Yeah, that’s great. I really need to get my Mum onto this actually, she is definitely the step Queen. She will definitely smash those challenges.
SARAH: And finally, what is PUML working on that will bring more value and create new opportunities for people earning on web3?
EMMA: Yeah, absolutely. So as I said, we’re looking to integrate some of the new challenges. So my favorite one is the sleep challenge. I’m a gun at that one.
We’re looking to add some more mental health based avenues for people to explore within the app as well and also tokenize that as well as we’re looking to actually change up our business model, and basically create self service challenges. So, what that means for a user is essentially you can create your own challenge. You will be able to invite your local family, friends or whoever you want really whoever’s in your community, run a challenge and then the organizer will get a kickback for actually organizing and running that.
So, we want to give power to the people instead of setting that up. And we understand that, we personally can’t sort of create every challenge everywhere. So we want to provide people with the infrastructure to be able to, yeah, create healthy competitions in their local area, increase your health and wellness and get rewards for doing it.
SARAH: That’s awesome. I love it. I absolutely love what you guys are doing at PUML and it’s something I’m very passionate about. So yeah, keep it up. Keep doing what you’re doing.
Thank you so much for joining me today Emma. It’s been great having you on and hearing what you guys are up to, what’s in store for the future. Very exciting stuff and thank you to all those who have tuned in. We will see you next time.
EMMA: Thanks Sarah, I appreciate it. Have a great day!
